Quite a while ago I wrote one or two posts about homophones. Well, they're back!


Well, HERE's a game you can play to improve both your listening and pronunciation skills.

Mais do mesmo!

Não sei se isso já ficou claro por aqui, mas a ideia do blog é melhorar o inglês de quem já sabe alguma coisa, não ensinar inglês do zero.

I always try to think of little things that might improve at least one of your language skills (pronunciation, spelling, vocabulary, grammar) and, from experience, I can say that the skill people use the most is speaking, and that is why most of my posts are somehow related to that (and the reason why my writing is not that good, heh!).

Having said that, today's post is... wait for it... wait for it... HOMOPHONES!

And the crowd goes wild (a galera enlouquece):

-Yay! 

-Woo-hoo! 

-Hooray!

Muita gente adora listas (myself included), e elas podem ser muito práticas na hora em que precisamos consultar algo com urgência, mas acho que é mais fácil memorizar em doses homeopáticas.

The exercise has both usual and not so usual words, which have the same pronunciation, but different meanings!

Homophones!

Homophones são palavras que possuem a mesma pronúncia, mas que são escritas de forma diferente.

Um exemplo clássico de sala de aula: there, they're e their.

And the student asks:

-Quê? Pronuncia tudo igual?

And I answer, Austin Powers style:

-Yeah, baby, baby!
